Moodbidri is the town-muncipality in South Canara(Dakshina Kannada) District in Karnataka State, India; which is also known as Thulunadu. The majority of the population here belongs to the Jain.
Konaje is village in Dakshina Kannada (South Canara) District of Karnataka. The place is 7km away from the city, Moodbidri in the Naravi Road.
Konaje Kallu is a large granite monolith. I agree this is huge. But I wonder how the British Sailors where able to see the peak of the stones from the Arabian Sea and called it as Ass's ears!
We, me and my Auto driver Chandrahas Shetty started climbing 2PM. We got 2 other guys there, they do their studies at Moodbidri. We were not knowing the way to go there to the top. Could see different ways in different directions. One of the villegers shown us the first direction to climb up and remaining we assumed and climbed up. Could see some trees and plants which are dried due to the lack of water. We could see a Pond on the way. It was well maintained too.
It took half an hour to reach the bottom of the huge rock. The Big Rock gives the shelter for some ascetics. They do Pooja there every day. Soon after reaching there, one of the ascetics asked us to have the water. I wondered, the Huge rock is their shelter! They had built some rooms, a pooja room(or a temple?). I could see, some electroninc lights there. I thought they were charging it from somewhere and taking it here. But when I climbed up the same huge rock, could see a Solar Panel! Using that only they use the Electonic Lights.
Climbing up of that Rock itself is a risky task. They way to the bottom of rock peak has been blocked by the trees and other plants. 2 guys, did not take a chance, but we climbed up the huge. The way, we taken was a slope area. Could see some monkeys on the rock. If they had attacked us, we would've taken REST at the bottom, may be 30-40 feet bellow! But they seem to be silent and they were affraid of us! We were not knowing about any other way to the peak of the rock. The ways were blocked by the nature only. So we took rest on the top of the rock and had some snacks. While coming back, could see many people who came from Tamilnadu/Palaghat and they were doing meditation. Of-course, this place is too good for that!
The sunrise view from the top of the Rock, would be a superb view! I wish If I get a chance for that too!!!
